09 Aug Become a Weed Warrior our open spaces need you
Have you taken a walk around in the foothills, around the river, or other open spaces in Boise? Have you ever wondered what one plant is from another? Did you know that there are several volunteers who take care of restoring these treasured areas each year? How about getting involved.
Weed Warriors is always looking for extra hands to help restore our open spaces. Here is information we received from Boise Park and Rec Foothills Restoration Specialist, Martha Brabec.
Help improve habitat by joining the City of Boise Parks and Recreation Weed Warrior program! Volunteers will be trained to help restore native plant communities along the Boise River and in Open Space Reserves by removing invasive plant species and noxious weeds. Native plant communities are vital to the support of a rich and diverse population of native wildlife including birds, small mammals, and large ungulates like mule deer and elk. Training will be provided – basic and advanced – in plant identification, restoration of ecological systems, effective and appropriate removal methods for invasive plants, the safe use of tools, and more. Please contact Martha Brabec, Parks and Recreation Foothills Restoration Specialist, for additional details. firstname.lastname@example.org, 208-493-2535
